How do I clean my BBQube?

BBQube is an outdoor appliance and as such needs to be care for to maintain its overall condition and functionality.

Upon first use, you may notice a slight smell – this is simply the high temperature, outer painted surface curing in the high heat and is perfectly normal. It will stop after one or two uses.

We recommend undertaking regular, monthly checks (more regularly during bad weather). When cold, wipe all surfaces with a non-scratch cloth to keep them dry and to help eradicate minor blemishes before they deteriorate further.

In between uses, remove ash from inside BBQube to clear airways, wiping key areas with a dry micro fibre cloth, and keeping the glass door clean.

How do I store my BBQube when not in use?

Protect your BBQube from the elements with a made-to-fit cover. You can purchase the BBQube cover here.

How do I control the heat on BBQube?

BBQube has an integrated air-adjustment system, which allows you to effortlessly control the flow of air to the fire. By sliding the handle to the left or right you can create micro-adjustments to the air flow which will increase or decrease the burn of the fire inside. It’s that simple!

What materials can I burn in BBQube?

BBQube is suitable for both wood and charcoal. We recommend burning charcoal for cooking and kiln-dried or seasoned hardwood for heating. We recommend only burning kiln-dried or seasoned hardwood inside your BBQube as this will produce a more efficient and smoke-free burn.

Never use wet or unseasoned (green) wood as this will cause smoke, a poor burn, and could quickly result in the build-up of soot and creosote which, because of the higher temperatures of stove flue gases, could cause a flue fire. In addition, burning wet wood creates other environmental problems, a less efficient fuel economy and can eventually clog your flue. Burning wet or unseasoned wood will also reduce the effectiveness of the stove’s glass cleaning air system thus causing staining and blackening of the glass.

How do I cook on BBQube?

With its generous grill, BBQube is suitable for even the largest cook-out. Once your fire is roaring you can easily control the amount of heat up to the grill by sliding the integrated air-adjustment handle to the left or right to adjust to the air flow which will increase or decrease the burn of the fire inside; allowing you to cook low and slow or fast and full. The highly accurate temperature gauge on BBQube will also help you cook to perfection.

All varieties of meat and vegetables are suitable for cooking directly on top of the grill; from a slow-cooked joint to a sizzling sausage, from a charred corn-on-the-cob to a sliced courgette. You can also add a metal cooking tray for a less-charred cook. Why not add a pizza stone on top of the grill for crispy pizza bases that are cooked to your taste in minutes?

Won’t my legs get hot whilst I stand in front of BBQube to cook?

No. BBQube has internal fireguard doors which deflect the heat away from the glass door, leaving you free to stand in front without heating up your legs.

When you want to switch to heating-mode simply push the fire guard doors to the side using the protective glove provided and they will quickly move out of view and divert the heat from the fire forwards, creating warmth for you to enjoy as well as a view through the glass door at your beautiful fire.

How do I convert my BBQube from cooking to heating mode?

BBQube has internal fireguard doors which deflect the heat away from the glass door, leaving you free to stand in front whilst cooking without heating up your legs. An internal and removable baffle plate below the barbecue grill allows you to control the heat up to the grill for low and slow cooking or high heat.

When you want to switch to heating-mode simply push the fire guard doors to the side using the protective glove provided and they will quickly move out of view and divert the heat from the fire forwards, creating warmth for you to enjoy as well as a view through the glass door at your beautiful fire.

Isn’t a wood burner bad for the environment?

It is a common myth that all wood burners are bad for our environment.

Whilst it’s true that, without the right technology in place, most methods of outdoor heating can have a negative impact on the environment.  In January 2018, changes to Lot 20 of EU Eco Design legislation required all electric and gas patio heaters to comply with minimum efficiency standards. This, in turn, caused many UK households to swap to outdoor wood burners as a more efficient option. So, while the UK government places certain domestic regulations upon indoor wood burning stoves, there is little restriction placed upon outdoor ovens, barbecues and burners. That doesn’t mean to say, however, that all outdoor wood burners are made equal— in fact, some are more environmentally friendly than others.

Fortunately, BBQube is one of the more efficient wood-burners on the market.

We recommend only burning kiln-dried or seasoned hardwood inside your BBQube as this will produce a more efficient and smoke-free burn.

Never use wet or unseasoned (green) wood as this will cause smoke, a poor burn, and could quickly result in the build-up of soot and creosote which, because of the higher temperatures of stove flue gases, could easily cause a flue fire. In addition, burning wet wood creates other environmental problems, a less efficient fuel economy and can eventually quickly clog your flue. Burning wet or unseasoned wood will also reduce the effectiveness of the stove’s internal air-adjustment system leading to staining and blackening of the glass.
